On May 5, at its special meeting the Cabinet of Ministers approved Roman Nasirov as Chairman of the State Fiscal Service. The new SFS head told that he was going to attract best national and foreign experts to build a high-quality and transparent tax system in Ukraine.
Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalie Yaresko convinces it was the first most transparent procedure to select a SFS head in the history of Ukraine, while the Government made every effort to attract as many highly qualified candidates as possible to participate in the competition. She added that the Finance Ministry had provided sufficient time for all the concerned to submit required documents. To implement a transparent procedure and to draw a three international recruitment agencies were engaged in cooperation to draw the largest number of professionals.
"We study very carefully an experience of Slovakia, the Baltic countries, Georgia and the developed western countries. We will try to build a truly high-quality transparent system for Ukraine," stressed the SFS chairman.
In general to participate in the competition 67 candidates applied, 20 of them did not meet basic eligibility requirements and legislation on where 12 strongest applicants were shortlisted through voting.
On April 23, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian Parliament) held a public hearing on 11 candidates that was available to watch live. Following the hearing, the Council conducted a ranking procedure and shortlisted four clear leaders, "who were significantly ahead of all the rest accorinding to their professional characteristics."
On April 30, after an hour interview with each candidate only two candidates were submitted for consideration of the Prime Minister.
