Last year almost all retailers faced weak consumer activity and a noticeable decrease in the sales volume and turnover. In this context, the majority of shopping centers also reported a decline in consumer traffic. According to UTG experts number of shoppers in the district shopping centers decreased to a greater extent then in shopping malls of regional format.

According to the data of the UTG Department of Strategic Consulting, the average daily number of visitors to regional shopping centers in the 1st quarter of 2015 decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 631 people per 1,000 sq m. While the average daily number of visitors of district shopping centers decreased by 30% and amounted to 803 people per 1,000 sqm.

According to the UTG analysts, the fact that the number of visitors of regional shopping malls decreased to a lesser extent then district ones shows further shift of consumer demand. Regional Shopping malls has a significant competitive advantage as they can offer an end user a wider range of services, entertainment and better tenant mix variety.
