On May 13, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko approved the composition of the Advisory International Council of Reforms of Ukraine.

Famous world politicians were invited to join the Council. Among them are Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, active Member of European Parliament Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt, U.S. Senator John McCain, author of Slovak reforms Mikuláš Dzurinda, economist Anders Aslund and former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius.

“It is only the initial composition of the Council that will be broadened. The majority of the invited persons have already accepted the invitation. A great friend of Ukraine and former President of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski has expressed willingness to join the Council. We are holding negotiations with some other international prominent figures as well,” – said the Head of the Council Mikheil Saakashvili.

“Our goal is to help Ukraine in process of reforms implementation, with our sound advice and active support in the international arena. Every two weeks we will prepare a report on the reform process, showing both – achievements and problematic points. The world, as well as the public of Ukraine demand radical changes. We will do everything we can for these changes to become a reality,” Mikheil Saakashvili noted.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Dmytro Shymkiv has emphasized that in three months, since the establishment of the Council, Mikheil Saakashvili had managed to gather a very powerful team for it, including three former Prime Ministers of European countries. “All these people proved themselves as successful politicians and reformers, leaders of public opinion in their countries and worldwide. We believe that with such a team, the Council will provide significant assistance to Ukraine in the implementation of important reforms and promotion of the country’s interests in the world,” he said.

The Advisory International Council of Reforms is a consultative body aimed at elaboration of proposals and recommendations on the implementation of reforms in Ukraine on the basis of the best international experience. Membership in the Advisory International Council of Reforms under the President of Ukraine is an unpaid position, which does not provide for official functions and is solely honorable.
